The health guarantee is an absolute priority for Ile de France breeders.
- The farmers apply the collective rules scrupulously:
- Each animal born must be individually identified and registered by an independent organisation, working under the control of the Ministry of Agriculture.
- All movements of animals are registered.
- All disease prevention measures dealing with notifiable infectious diseases, in particular the tests when animals are introduced are applied rigorously.
- The Ile de France breeding animals develop genetic resistance against scrapie.
- Since 2002 the Ile de France breed has imposed on its members the 100% use of rams with the ARR/ARR genotype. This genotyping is carried out by independent laboratories. The French Ile de France breeders’ association UPRA is today in a position to supply large quantities of male and female breeding animals guaranteed resistant against scrapie.
